At Ciliatech, we push the boundaries of medical innovation to transform the treatment of ocular diseases. As we grow and evolve rapidly, we are looking for a versatile International Surgical Training Manager.

The objective of this role is to provide surgical training to Ciliatech company staff, and directly to surgeons for the purposes of Ciliatech (Intercil) commercial surgical implantations, and clinical trial implantations

Location: Based in Europe, with strong preference for candidates located in Germany or the UK.

Mobility: A reliable car suitable for frequent business travel is required. A car allowance is provided, but you must have access to a fit-for-purpose vehicle at all times. Full clean driving license is mandatory.

Travel readiness: This role involves extensive International travel, sometimes with short notice. You must hold a valid passport with sufficient remaining validity.

Key Responsibilities

Surgical Training & Certification

• Master the Intercil® concept, clinical data, surgical technique, and associated conditions to obtain full certification as an advanced-level surgical trainer.
• Deliver world-class onboarding and certification for all new field team members, ensuring they become independent Intercil® surgical trainers.
• Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and corrective support to field teams to maintain and elevate surgical standards.
• Train with high emotional intelligence, ensuring motivation, confidence, and high performance across the team.
• Act as a visible role model in the OR, demonstrating “what good looks like” to both surgeons and commercial team members.
• Contribute to international wet labs and training events, and represent Ciliatech at key scientific congresses when required.

Clinical Trial

• Collaborate closely with Clinical colleagues to participate in Site Initiation Visits (SIVs) encompassing training of all clinical trial investigators with a view to building direct relationships with clinical trial investogators
• Provide 1:1 case coverage for all Ciliatech/Intercil clinical trial implantations in line with GCP guidelines including fastidious maintenance of associated written records
• Ensure consistency and quality in surgical technique across all trial sites and investigators

Operational Excellence & Compliance

• Provide direct OR support during commercial implantations when sales reps require backup or escalation.
• Track and document all training activities, certifications, and case coverage using CRM tools and internal systems.
• Ensure full compliance with all legal, regulatory, and ethical standards, including:
  • Timely adverse event and product complaint reporting
  • Respect of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Adherence to internal policies on documentation, behavior, and product use
• Manage your own travel and expenses responsibly, balancing effectiveness with cost-efficiency.
• Stay informed on MIGS industry trends, competitor techniques, and emerging treatment options — and relay key insights to senior leadership

Profile

Required Skills/Experience

• Minimum 5 years prior experience inside ophthalmic operating rooms (sales, CAS, clinical trials, medical doctor etc)
• GCP qualified (this can be provided by Ciliatech during onboarding).
• Prior experience in a training role
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• Strong emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills
• Proven leadership and ability to influence without authority

Preferred Skills/Experience

• Medical, ophthalmic or optometric qualification
• Experience in the glaucoma sub-specialty (ideally MIGS)
• Past commercial/sales experience – ideally in an OR-focused role
• Past experience of commercial clinical trials
• May have previously worked as (for example) Surgical Partner, Clinical Science Liaison (CSL)
